Xray left elbow consultation Dr Fritz and Dr Braam |
Today was our biggest day ever! we saw more
patients today with a total of 168 topping yesterdays patient count of 146. There were more serious cases, 3 sets of
twins, and the day started with a bang, literally, with Dr. Braam stitching up
a child who had fallen at the school.
It’s now 5pm and the day is winding
down. Dr. Braam is sitting with a 4 year
old child who is resting and waking up from a procedure requiring ketamine
anesthesia. The nurses and support staff
are chatting about cases seen. The overworked
pharmacy team is still filling the last orders, with a group of 6 working in a
small room that was 32 degrees. It’s a
tired but satisfied feeling among all.
There was a very serious case today
involving a 3 year old girl with severe gastro-entireties. IV rehydration was administered with nurses taking
great care. The child improved but still
was poor however she miraculously improved after prayer with Pastor Wade and
members of the clinic. Dr. Fritz took
over her care and discharged her in the afternoon. It was amazing to see her walking out of the
clinic, compared to how she was brought in lethargic and flat. Miracles happen all the time.
Despite the busyness of our day, we still
take time to appreciate the warm Haitian weather, admire the grand Mango trees
and enjoy the absence of snow here. We
start the day in a beautiful way; gathering on the roof top of the house at
6:30 am. The sun is up and the roosters
are crowing. Team members are taking
turns leading in devotions, “I will rise up early in the morning and praise
you”.

In pharmacy all day but a nurse at heart. |
Looks like your ministry of taking care for the sick was well received today! Take care. Love Shirley
ReplyDeleteHi All! Glad you made it safely. It is so cool to see some familiar faces! Big hugs to Lynnise, Dave, Elma & Braam. Dave, is the pharmacy as organized as I left it? Vermeulens, I am making samosas as I write this...come to Kelowna for some! Lynnise, nice scrubs (I bought the top last time I was home); did you take some PB & candy for Joe?
ReplyDeleteFor all you first timers, be prepared to be forever changed. There is an indomitable spirit in these beautiful people, and you will leave a piece of your heart there and replace it with a lasting memory.
We averaged about 140 people a day which equalled 500 Rxs a day. Dave, I have a cheat sheet of Creole sigs that I made. Let me know how I can get it to you. I don't know who you have as interpreters this time but they are such wonderful people; please give them my regards, as well as to Joe, Val, Howard, Dr. Fritz, the Mmes in the kitchen & Pastor Marc. Marc, have you installed my slurpee machine in the pharmacy yet?
This is what my Dad wanted to do but never got to, so I'd like to think he's there with all of you. God bless all of you and keep you safe. Lots of love, Joy

Hi All
Looks like you are doing amazing things ... as you guys always do down there!!
Definitely thinking back to my time there last year - what a great experience - I'm sorry I'm not able to be there this year! But by the looks of it, you have assembled another group of amazing people to carry on with busy days that the clinic demands. Hope everyone is remembering to drink adequate fluids and wear their insect repellent!! haha
